Death Servant Before the V V Inn Prequel Stories Book 1 edition by CJ Ellisson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
I volunteered to read a free copy for my honest opinion. This is the story of how Dria and Rafe meet Jon and how Jon becomes Dria's servant.
The story begins a year after Jon was bitten and as he is leaving Romeo's pack. Jon ends up in Virginia and meets a young she wolf, Riane. They hit it off and since Jon has no place to go, he decides to find a job and stay in the area. Their first date goes really good but Jon doesn't want to rush things so he waits a week to ask her out for a second date but Riane is acting strange and tells him she is not interested and to leave town for his on good. Jon has a feeling that something isn't right and follows her home. He finds a vampire brothel that is holding Riane's pack against their will and "pimping out" the weres to other vampires. Before he can get away, he is captured and drained until he passes out. Once he is able, Riane helps him escape. As he is trying to get away, the vampire comes after him and he barely gets away. Jon ends up in D.C. As he is trying to find someone to help him free Riane's pack mates from the vampire, he meets Dria and Rafe. After some major convincing by Rafe and Jon, Dria agrees to help but on her terms. This is where we get a glimpse into Dria as an enforcer and why she was the Tribunal's greatest.
Death's Servant is a great story. I love Jon. He has a heart of gold.
C.J. Ellison is a wonderful story teller!
I recommend this book and series!

Death Servant Before the V V Inn Prequel Stories Book 1 edition by CJ Ellisson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Having previously read several books in V V Inn series, I couldn't resist reading Death's Servant Volume 1. It tells how Jonathan ends up leaving the pack he was a member of in Canada and why. Without a pack and no idea where to go, he ends up in Virginia. He meets another werewolf, Raine, whom he thinks could be his mate. He is captured by an evil vampire who is holding Raine's entire pack hostage and is selling them for their blood as playthings to other vampires. Jon is able to escape but knows he must help save Raine and her pack. We learn how he meets Dria and Rafe and how their relationship with each other developes. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. Now, to begin the other books again.
I was able to get this prequel for free, so I figured I would give it a go. I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never read this author before, and I never bothered to check out any reviews beforehand either.
Overall, I'm pleased. The characters are interesting, even if we don't have tons of background to work with. Ellisson takes classic paranormal creatures and adds her own little twists. The dialogue was fairly good, and that's a big thing for me. I can't stand a story where every conversation between characters feels forced and/or just ridiculous. The story itself is very short, it is only a prequel novella story. However, even with being short the story makes sense. It's not as if details are just thrown together. The timeline is also short, again making sense for the story. As a prequel, it gives me a decent idea of how the series itself might be set up (main characters, backdrop, etc.).
I believe this novella is most likely a great starting point for anyone unfamiliar with the author (as I myself was) to determine how they will like her writing style and story lines before buying the whole series.
This book is an intro to the V V series.
It includes how Dria comes into having an alpha Were as a bonded servant.
Jon sets about in search of assistance to defend Werewolves imprisoned by a vampire who is addicted to their blood. It creates a thrilling experience for some vampires due to its supernatural properties. The journey begins after Jon has a falling out with his own alpha and subsequently finds his girlfriend in bed with a pack mate. He gathers his things quickly and heads out of Canada looking for a new start, where he stops at a diner located only hours from where he grew up. His family believes he is dead after an animal attack the previous year, but somehow he has made it back without planning.
While contemplating his next move, Jon is greeted by a waitress, Raine, who turns out to be a Were as well.
In the midst of believing he is pursuing a relationship with her, she is attempting to lure him into a vampire trap to save her pack.
After she changes her mind and tries to convince him to leave, he follows her home only to be attacked.
He escapes, and during his questions for help, he finds Dria and her husband Rafe in DC.
The story encases the reader in a brief experience where they are propelled into the rules and livelihood of Vampires and Werewolves associated with the era and that of V V.
This inclusion is beneficial to understand the back story for their relationship previous to book one and is a pleasant read.
It highlights important facts and encourages a connection of the characters with the reader.
Their journey continues and their relationship grows as the years pass.
I would recommend this book if a reader was interested in delving into the Vampire Vacation series.
