The story started too slowly. It just didn't keep my interest. I really like the books where pets are the real sleuths. This one didn't work so I didn't finish it.

Great read for young adults on up. What ever would we do without cats to help us along???? Great who done it.
There is more emphasis on Dulcie here and the demonstration that not all of Joe and Dulcie's kind of cat are good kitties. Just like all humans aren't good people.
I am not very good at expressing my thoughts, at all,l so this will be short and to the point. I loved the book, I've read 6 of the most recent Joe Grey books and wanted to read an older one to get a feel of Joe's earlier days. This is a great series if you like cats, a good mystery, have an open mind about cat's talking and like stories that are free of sex and bad language. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
Dulcie & Mavity are featured in the 4th book of the Joe Grey tales. Dulcie's role as the library cat is challenged. Azreal, a black cat with evil tendencies enters the story. He tempts Dulcie with stories of voodoo and dark jungles. Joe & Dulcie watch Azreal & his human partner Greeley burglarized several stores. They recognized that Azreal is able to speak like them. Only to learned Greenly is Mavity's brother. Another suburb story.
I have always enjoyed this series. It's not as if the series is not similar in writing style or characters, but the stories are all well written, the characters are engaging, and the plots are fun to read.
Cat In The Dark is the 4th book in this wonderful mystery series. If you love cats and fast moving mysteries, you’ll love this series. I recommend you read them in order because each story has references to past stories. You’ll also know how and when each character entered Joe’s life. The stories all have some ‘ahhh’ moments, some sad moments, and lots of ‘edge of the seat’ fast moments. I am thoroughly enjoying them.
I enjoyed this cat mystery enough that I bought several of Murphy's other books. Murphy takes the reader right into the body and mind of some interesting cat personalities. She blends the basic instincts and antics of felines with human intelligence and the ability of speech well. I found myself, mentally, in the featured cat's bodies, feeling the thrill of running across rooftops or jumping from one point to another. Ordinarily, I don't relish cat/dog mysteries as the author often switches back and forth between the mystery and the animal's stories. This mystery is complex and well thought out and it is interwoven seamlessly with the protagonist cats.
I like the plots and the writing but can't take anymore of the graphic gore of cats hunting, killing and eating other animals. We all know it's the nature of animals but I don't need it spelled out in graphic, bloody horror several times in one book.
